About Hearth and Seoul
Christine Young, Owner

I opened Hearth and Seoul because I was searching for something I couldn't find anywhere in Colorado that felt accessible as a Korean American. A place where Korean herbs and teas weren't an afterthought, where that tradition was treated with the same depth and care I'd spent years giving to herbalism and wellness. It gave me an open invitation to explore deeper and share with the broader community what was near and dear to my heart.

Honestly, it started more personally than that. My mother moved back to Korea years ago, and I found myself feeling that distance in a way I hadn't expected. She was my connection to my heritage. Tea and herbalism had consistently been how I connected to nature. Through plants, people, and places. When I started pulling on the thread of Korean plant medicine and tea culture, I found a way back to something that had always been part of me, even when I didn't have language for it.

I've spent over seventeen years working in integrative health, wellness, and the food and beverage industry. What I care about most is connecting people to plants in a way that feels real and accessible. Not in a way that was intimidating, not overly clinical, just honest and useful and sometimes really delicious. I wanted it to be accessible, share education, and connect our community members. ‘

Hearth and Seoul is the shop I was looking for and couldn't find. We carry over 100 herbs and teas, with a deep focus on Korean teas sourced directly from organic farms. Many of them are from Jeju Island or Hadong, where I travel regularly to meet the farmers and taste the harvest firsthand. Everything we carry has been chosen because I believe in it. Even most of our herbs come from local regenerative farms here in Colorado, or form organic/wildcrafted distributors.

We host classes, workshops, and community gatherings because knowledge about plants should be shared and experienced. Whether you're brand new to herbs or you've been brewing your own blends for years, you're welcome here. We love learning about other’s stories too!

The community that's grown around the shop has meant everything to me. Heidi, who now works alongside me, found Hearth and Seoul through an article I wrote about Evergreens. She's a Korean adoptee who saw that I was a Korean American herbalist writing about plants and said she absolutely had to get connected. She now offers Community Herbal support. Stella, who you’ll see often in the shop is exploring her own Filipina roots. That's the kind of thing that makes me feel like this place is doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

Come find us in the Highlands neighborhood of Denver. I'd love to make you a cup of something.

With Heart and Soul, Christine

It's important to me to support local and organic sources, and I'm always on the lookout for more local farms and women owned or BIPOC owned businesses to collaborate with. If you're a grower or have a favorite product, please don't hesitate to reach out, I'd love to strengthen our local community together.

About the shop

Hearth and Seoul Herbal Shop

Hearth and Seoul Herbal Shop is a neighborhood herb and tea shop that aims to be accessible and sustainable to the surrounding community. We recognize that herbalism in general can often feel unapproachable or inaccessible, but we encourage curiosity and conversations so that we can overcome any obstacles that may keep you hesitant to explore herbalism, plants, and tea.

Accessibility:
Whether you're just learning about herbs or are experienced and curious how you can be supported on your health journey, enjoy natural products, or are a tea lover we are here to support the community. We have an herbal community support day on a donation basis, or sliding scale deep dive consultations with a clinical herbalist and RN. We also offer Pay what you can classes to the community.

Sustainability:
This is one of our pillars as we implement ways to reduce waste and plastic use within our shop. We source herbs from regenerative farms, organic farms and some of our herbs are ethically wildcrafted. We have relationships with local farms in Colorado and South Korea, as well as with organic herb suppliers in the US. Our appliances are energy star certified and our packaging is recyclable or reusable.

Cultural Connection:
One of the important parts of the journey to opening this shop was reaching back to Christine's roots in South Korea where the love of nature, plants, and healing was passed down from her grandmother and her mother. She aims to share and connect traditional herbs, teas, and foods with the community and share in the culture of others.

Hearth and Seoul Herbal Shop is run by a small team of amazing women. Owned by Christine Young, a Korean American Herbalist and Writer, she is supported by her friend Stella, a Filipina American Ayurveda Practitioner and another Korean American Herbalist and RN, Heidi, who will be taking clients for consultations for the shop.  Both Stella and Heidi have worked tirelessly to help get the shop up and running and continue to support Christine as she navigates running a small herbal shop to help support the community. The shop is partnering with various vendors including Korean farms to bring something fresh and vibrant to herbal formulas and products you would normally find in an herbal shop.

Stella is a delight at the shop and when she's not making you laugh, she's listening intently and creates a grounding healing space. She can help craft custom herbal blends, curate gifts, guides us through our donation based yoga nidra classes once a month, and in the future will be offering community based Ayurveda support!

Heidi is another Korean American Herbalist who found my shop and wanted to be a part of the Korean influence that the shop is trying to integrate into the western herbalism model. As a registered nurse and a background in clinical herbalism she's starting up her practice at the shop and will be taking clients interested in herbal consultations. Her passion is helping the underserved and gapping care for the community. She works with compassion and wisdom.
