About the event
Join Tamika Caston-Miller as she guides you through tea ceremony and stomatic movement.
Attaya, the preperation of tea, celebrated in The Gambia, Mauritania, and Senegal, are lively ceremonies in three rounds. Celebrating the pains of growing up, the joy of doing grown folks things, and then the changes of old age; this ceremony is an opportunity to embrace life in community. The community is invited to join us in celebrating and embracing ancestral practices. This event is not limited to those of West African descent; everyone is welcome. While I have discovered my Yoruba ancestry, I am still exploring the details and origins of my heritage. This gathering is not about bloodlines or gatekeeping, but rather about a Black woman honoring and reconnecting with her roots in 2024, and is an open invite. Alongside our tea ceremony will be somatic movement in dance form that traces these stops along the journey of life.
